Connection Technologies - Interconnection Solutions for Harsh Environments - Army Technology

Connection Technologies - Interconnection Solutions for Harsh Environments - Army Technology
Connection Technologies Ltd is a NZ-owned company that specialises in making the right connection once and getting it right the first time. The interface connection in any electrical circuit is often the weakest point, subject to wear and tear during repeated plugging and potentially can be open to damage from the elements around its location.

A connector is not just about making a junction between two circuits. A large number of questions must be answered when making a choice on the right product. Inherent in the selection it must be considered that on the basis New Zealand is a miniscule market in relation to the rest of the world, the last thing anyone wants is to get caught selecting products as large minimums to purchase or long lead times can be applicable. Equally, contact plating of, gold, silver or tin must be considered, as well as the housing material and the environmental rating required. In many ways, Connection Technologies works more in the way of a consultant providing technical support across a range of fronts when a connector needs to be selected.
The complementary service that goes with connectors is to offer an appropriate means of cable protection and too many times clients forget we have one of the harshest UV environments in the world. Again, Connection Technologies have become specialists in offering the right product, be it UV-resistant or a product needing to be crush-proof yet still flexible. Again, as with the connectors, the company only deals with major and leading brands of products from manufacturers who have the history to stand behind their products.

The company

Connection Technology is a privately NZ-owned company established in 1999, but its staff can offer more than 130 years' collective experience of dealing with connector, cabling and tooling problems. Experience and knowledge comes from involvement in the military and power markets, telecoms and OEM markets, along with experience in cable harness manufacturing.
Military specification connectors have long been a mainstay in the products offered; in fact we are the only specialist connector and tooling company in New Zealand to meet the requirements of NZ Civil Aviation. This approval allows the company to offer 'Certificates of Compliance' with the quality process being automatically applied to the rest of the functions within the company.
To this end the company carries a wide range of Mil-C 5015 spec connector which is widely used by defence and in industrial process equipment. Its reliability and wide range of pin counts sees it used on a vast range of instrumentation and process machinery.
Other products offered are industrial connectors from leading manufacturers around the world, whose products meet the relevant specifications, such as DIN from Germany, HE from France, BS from the UK and the various UL requirements from the US.

Heavy duty industrial connectors

Harting GmbH is a long established and innovative connector manufacturer from Germany. They offer products ranging from PCB multiposition interface connectors through to larger 300 amp connectors for the rail and energy markets.
Among the product line offered is a standard rectangular family of industrial connectors manufactured in Germany using Harting's cost-effective and highly-mechanised production processes. Overall, their products are to be found in mechanical and plant engineering, factory automation, power generation and distribution, as well as industrial electronics and telecommunications.

Miniature AMC military connectors

ODU, a leading German manufacturer of hi-spec connectors, has developed its AMC (advanced military connector) for use in Future Soldier programmes. While retaining the highly reliable ODU mini-snap features, the AMC range is lighter and more compact.

Industrial machinery connectors

Deutsch IPD was founded in 1978 to serve industrial and heavy duty markets. They are the world's leading supplier of connector products in industrial machinery of the likes of Caterpillar and other brands of earth moving equipment; connectors for big rig trucks and marine equipment.
Switchcraft Inc is one of the world's oldest, yet still leading, manufacturers of high quality audio and microphone connectors, broadcast patch panels and a range of small waterproof instrumentation connectors. In general, Switchcraft specialises in any connector you may find in most audio equipment, from the church hall to a pilot's headset connector.

Rubber-moulded waterproof connectors

Sea Con is the world's leading manufacturer of connectors found deep underwater on offshore drilling rigs and much of the deep water diving equipment. The Sea Con WET-CON connector series was developed to provide inexpensive yet reliable rubber-moulded connectors that can make and break both under water and on the surface.

High current, single pole connectors

Phase3 Ltd is a manufacturer of high current (up to 800 amp) single pole connectors which are widely used in the lighting industry and for emergency power circuits. A recent addition to the range is a distribution box which requires the connectors to be mated or unmated sequentially, which provides for maximum electrical safety when using this product line.

Connector assembly and crimp tools

Connection Technologies has a 30 year relationship with one of the world's leading crimp tool manufacturers. Not only is Daniels Manufacturing Corporation (DMC) the leading supplier of crimp tooling for use on military type connectors, they also offer tool kits designed around the various aircraft types, military and civilian, which allows that piece of equipment to be deployed anywhere in the world, but with a tool kit specific to the equipment.

Value added service

Many customers do not have the in-house expertise to build customised cable assemblies or they have the desire to focus on their core business and leave the cable assemblies to the experts. To this end, Connection Technologies has developed and built a wide range of cable solutions to suit a customer's specific application. Our expertise and general connector knowledge has solved many a problem and in the meantime no doubt saved the customer money by building the right cable in the right format and delivering 'right on time'.
In conclusion, if you have a problem, we will have a world-class solution. Try us out.
